Congratulations on choosing to join us in the majestic Arapahoe National Forests in Summit County, CO. Race Date: July 26th, 2008 Getting There: Summit County is approximately a 2 hour drive from Denver, 7 hour drive from Salt Lake City and a 14 hour drive from Phoenix. If arriving by plane, you're best to arrive at the Denver International Airport. Colorado Search & Rescue Card When To Arrive: 12hr & 24hr Teams will need to arrive at the Frisco Nordic Center for registration between 6:00pm and 9:00pm on Friday July 25th. Sprint Racers - Racer check-in will be Saturday Morning 8:00am - 10:00am at the Frisco Nordic Center. Directions: Take I-70 to the Frisco/Breckenridge Exit 203. Travel South on Hwy 9 also called Summit Blvd for two miles past Frisco's Main Street. Go 1/2 mile and make a left turn off Hwy 9 into the Peninsula Recreation Area to the free parking lots and Nordic Log Lodge.
The 12hr, 24hr and the Sprint Race are either Supported or Unsupported: The 12hr and Spring races are easily done without support crews as the start/finish and transition areas are all in one location. You will be allowed to have support assist you if you so desire. The 24 hour course will have one additional transition area where support can assist or if you are racing unsupported event staff will transport your gear to this location. More infomration will be posted to future race updates. Accommodations: The race takes place throughout the Summit County area. There are a variety of lodging options available depending on where you would like to stay. Here are a few recommendations:
Camping: There are many campsites around Dillon Reservoir, to make a reservation call 800-283-2267. You can also call the Forest Service for other camping options at 970-468-5400. Boat Requirements AdventureXstream will provide the Aire Tomcat tandem for all 2 person and 4 person teams. In order to keep the paddling sections fair and equitable all teams will be required to use the boats provided. Alterations to the kayaks will not be permitted. Note: We do not provide life vests or paddles. 12hr/24hr Solo athletes are required to bring their own kayak of choice for the race. We have secured 20 Aire Solo Inflatable Kayaks that solo racers can rent on a first come first served basis. We will have the kayaks ready at the transition area so that you do not have to transport a kayak for the event. Cost is $25.00. You can rent these from a future race update. Itinerary: Racer Check-In: 12hr & 24hr Teams - Friday July 25th, 6:00pm - 9:00pm, Sprint Teams - Saturday 8:00am - 10:00am 1) You will receive detailed maps and race instructions at check-in (you will only receive 1 set per team for the weekend) 2) Each racer and support person is required to complete a waiver form and medical information form. Race Start: 24hr Racers (Friday Midnight) - 12hr Racers (Saturday 7:30am) - Sprint Race (Saturday 10:30am)
Navigation / Map Reading: You will navigate your way over a vast area of diverse terrain with the combination of maps, compass, UTM coordinates, and racer instructions. *** You will get topo maps at racer check-in. Checkpoints and Passports Each team and solo athlete will receive 1 Official AdventureXstream Passport to be completed throughout the race. No replacement passports will be issued. You will encounter numerous checkpoints at strategic locations along the race route. We use these checkpoints to monitor each racer's position along the race course. Each checkpoint will have a password, which you must record in your passport. Passports must be completed in full and presented for inspection at the finish line. Self Sufficient This is a self sufficient Adventure Race, meaning anything you need while racing, including food, clothing, shoes, etc you have to carry during the race. There will be no water stations on the race route. |
